Small and medium-sized enterprises from Germany have seen their international sales grow by 10 percent over the past year via Amazon. These German companies sold more than 750 million items on the Amazon Marketplace in 2023. That corresponds to more than 1,400 products per minute.
This is shown by the figures from Amazon’s current “SME Report 2023”. While the number of sales partners remained constant at around 47,500, the number of jobs created by SMEs to run their online businesses on Amazon grew from 160,000 to 170,000.
According to Amazon, a global seller account is now as easy as booking a vacation. “This and the numerous tools – such as shipping by Amazon or translation and content tools based on artificial intelligence – help SMEs to reach millions of customers worldwide”, the company states. It is not for nothing that SMEs now account for more than 60% of the products sold on Amazon worldwide. They also benefit from events such as Prime Day: German SMEs sold millions of items within 48 hours in July 2024.
The report shows that the best-selling category for such German companies includes everything related to living, with products for office supplies newly added to the TOP-5. Sales partners from Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia showed the most successful development in terms of exports in 2023. Their export turnover rose by 15 percent each to more than 1.6 billion (North Rhine-Westphalia) and 340 million euros (Hesse).
