Temu, a rapidly growing e-commerce platform, has officially opened its marketplace to European traders, as confirmed by one of the company’s employees on LinkedIn. This expansion allows merchants across Europe to join the platform and reach a wider audience.
Merchants who join Temu’s platform are responsible for managing their product assortment, overseeing inventory, and handling the shipping of sold products. However, Temu retains control over setting the consumer prices for these goods, ensuring competitive pricing across the platform.
Innovative Sales Models: From Consignment to Local-to-Local
Temu initially gained momentum with its consignment model, where the platform manages product listings while merchants fulfill orders. Earlier this year, Temu introduced an additional “local-to-local” model. In this model, selling partners are responsible for shipping products directly to customers, streamlining the delivery process.
This new model provides international merchants with a valuable opportunity to leverage Temu’s growing popularity in local markets. For Temu’s parent company, PDD Holdings, this expansion helps facilitate faster deliveries to Western consumers and allows for the inclusion of larger items in their offerings.
European Expansion and Registration Details
Following the successful launch of this marketplace model in the United States earlier this year, Temu is now welcoming European businesses. Registration is open to businesses with EU entities, including those based in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the UK, and the Netherlands, as shared by seller acquisition manager Zixia Yi on LinkedIn.
Incentives for Early Adopters
To attract merchants, Temu is currently waiving base fees and sales commissions, offering a cost-effective way for sellers to join the platform. Additionally, sellers can advertise their listings on Temu for free during this introductory period, though the duration of this offer has not yet been announced.
