After pausing its European expansion plans, TikTok Shop is now reportedly gearing up to launch in Ireland and Spain this October, with additional European countries expected to follow next year.
TikTok Shop, operated by ByteDance, initially launched in select Asian markets in early 2022. Following successful expansions into the United Kingdom and the United States, TikTok began inviting merchants in Germany, France, Italy, and Spain to beta-test the feature earlier this year. However, ByteDance decided to delay its broader European rollout to focus on growing TikTok Shop in the US.
According to Bloomberg, ByteDance has informed merchants and creator agencies in recent weeks to prepare for the debut of TikTok Shop in Ireland and Spain. A team of 40 workers in Spain is reportedly ready to ensure a smooth launch. Additionally, TikTok is actively hiring for various roles, including logistics, compliance, and strategy positions, to support the rollout in Spain.
This move marks a significant step in TikTok’s European e-commerce strategy, as the company aims to expand its footprint across the continent.
