Zalando and Vestiaire Collective have launched a partnership bringing rigorously verified pre-owned luxury fashion from 50+ iconic brands to millions of European customers across 14 markets. Discover what it means for shoppers.
The market for high-quality second-hand fashion is growing fast, and Zalando is moving decisively to meet that demand. On 28 May 2026, Zalando announced a partnership with Vestiaire Collective – the global leader in pre-loved luxury resale – to offer authenticated pre-owned luxury fashion directly through the Zalando platform. The collaboration is live immediately across 14 European markets and marks the first time Zalando has opened its pre-owned category to an external partner.
What the Partnership Offers Shoppers
Through this collaboration, Zalando customers gain access to a curated selection of unique luxury items from more than 50 iconic brands. The assortment spans ready-to-wear, footwear, handbags, and accessories – including designer names that were not previously available on Zalando at all. Shoppers can browse and buy through a dedicated Vestiaire Collective landing page on Zalando, as well as within the existing Pre-owned category.
The authenticated pre-owned luxury fashion is available in Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, and Sweden.
Why Authentication Matters and How It Works
Trust is the cornerstone of any pre-owned luxury market, and it is central to what Vestiaire Collective brings to this deal. Founded in Paris in 2009, Vestiaire Collective built its reputation on rigorous verification standards. Today, the company employs more than 100 authenticators and 50 quality controllers worldwide who inspect items before they reach buyers.
Every piece of authenticated pre-owned luxury fashion listed on Zalando through this partnership goes through that same robust process. The assurance does not stop at the point of sale either: Zalando’s standard 30-day return window applies, and any returned item must pass a physical re-authentication at a Vestiaire Collective facility before it can be listed again. This closed-loop approach ensures that quality and confidence are maintained at every step of the customer journey.
The Business Case: Pre-owned Fashion Is Already Performing
The timing of this launch is no coincidence. Zalando’s own data paints a clear picture of how strong appetite for second-hand shopping has become on the platform. In 2025, an average of 62% of Zalando’s Pre-owned assortment sold within the first seven days of being listed – a remarkable turnover rate that underlines just how eagerly customers are seeking out quality second-hand pieces.
Perhaps equally telling is the basket behaviour that pre-owned shopping drives. Zalando data shows that 40% of customers who buy a pre-owned item go on to add a new item to the same order. Far from cannibalising new fashion sales, authenticated pre-owned luxury fashion appears to complement them, reinforcing the value of Zalando’s strategy to offer everything a fashion shopper might need in one place.

A Strategic Shift: Zalando as a Retail Enabler
Beyond the immediate consumer offer, this partnership signals something broader about where Zalando is heading. By welcoming Vestiaire Collective into its Partner Program, Zalando is extending that ecosystem into the pre-owned space for the first time. The company describes its direction as evolving “from a retailer to a retail enabler” — building infrastructure, logistics, and platform capabilities that allow partners to reach European customers at scale, rather than simply stocking and selling products itself.
Alice Marshall, Director Pre-owned at Zalando, framed the ambition plainly: “Demand for high-quality pre-owned fashion keeps growing. By adding authenticated luxury to the mix and pairing it with Zalando’s unmatched convenience, we aim to encourage even more customers to explore second-hand shopping.”
Thomas Hezard, Chief Product Officer at Vestiaire Collective, echoed that view from the other side of the partnership: “This partnership opens the door for a new generation of customers to discover and engage with luxury fashion through pre-owned, meeting them where they already shop.”
Part of a Broader Pre-owned Expansion
The Vestiaire Collective partnership is the latest step in a sustained push by Zalando to grow its Pre-owned category. Earlier in 2026, the platform added accessories and children’s fashion to the range, giving parents a way to both shop for and trade in gently worn kids’ clothes. Each expansion broadens the appeal of second-hand shopping to new audiences and reinforces Zalando’s position as the destination for authenticated pre-owned luxury fashion alongside new collections.
With Vestiaire Collective’s curation of five million items globally and Zalando’s reach of 62 million active customers across 29 markets, the partnership combines two significant scale advantages in service of what both companies call a shared goal: making circular luxury more visible, more relevant, and more accessible to a wider and younger audience across Europe.
