TikTok is gearing up to introduce its ecommerce platform, TikTok Shop, to continental Europe. The social media giant has started inviting merchants to beta-test the service in Germany, France, Italy, and Spain. Additional European countries are expected to follow suit soon.
According to the South China Morning Post, which cited anonymous sources, TikTok Shop’s launch in Western Europe is slated for the upcoming summer. The platform is also set to debut in Mexico in the near future.
Global Expansion of TikTok Shop
TikTok, an international subsidiary of the Chinese company ByteDance, initially launched TikTok Shop in select Asian markets in early 2022. This was followed by expansions into the United Kingdom and the United States. However, further expansion plans were temporarily put on hold due to less-than-expected performance in the UK.
Despite these setbacks, TikTok is now ready to extend its ecommerce activities. With the inclusion of Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Mexico, TikTok Shop will soon be operational in a total of 13 countries.
